About Manavgat

With 64 kilometres of coastline and a river flowing down from the Taurus range, Manavgat is the centre of nature tourism in Antalya. The broad, low Manavgat Waterfall, the rafting runs of Köprülü Canyon and the turquoise water of the Oymapınar Dam define the district. Side, Çolaklı, Kumköy and Sorgun are all administratively part of Manavgat.

Highlights

  • ◆ Manavgat Waterfall — a wide, low waterfall on the river with cafés around it
  • ◆ Köprülü Canyon National Park — a 14 km canyon and the rafting capital of Turkey
  • ◆ Oymapınar Dam (Green Canyon) — boat trips across a turquoise reservoir
  • ◆ Selge Ancient City — a mountain Pisidian city and the Roman Oluk Bridge
  • ◆ Seleukeia (Lyrbe) — agora, baths and church ruins hidden in the forest
  • ◆ Manavgat Market — the best known market in the region for textiles and spices

Places to Visit

A visit to the waterfall is usually combined with lunch at one of the trout restaurants along the river. On the way to Köprülü Canyon you can stop at Selge Ancient City and the historic Oluk Bridge. The Green Canyon boat tour on the Oymapınar reservoir lasts around two hours between steep canyon walls.

Beaches and Sea

The district's coastline is long and sandy, and the beaches of Çolaklı, Kumköy, Sorgun and Side all fall within its borders. The sea generally has a shallow entry and the area holds a large number of Blue Flag beaches.

Activities and Tours

Rafting is the signature activity, with runs in Köprülü Canyon for beginners through to experienced paddlers. Canyoning, trekking, jeep safaris, ATV tours, mountain biking and river boat trips complete the picture.

Where to Stay, Eat and Shop

Accommodation is concentrated in all-inclusive resorts along the coast, while the town centre keeps a more local, authentic feel. The riverside restaurants near the waterfall are known for trout and regional cooking. Manavgat Market, held on set days of the week, is the most popular shopping stop.

When to Visit

April to October suits rafting and canyon tours, when water levels are best. May to October is the swimming season, while April to June and September to October are the most pleasant for nature trips.

Transfer Tip

The airport is about 75 km away, a 65-80 minute drive. Hotels near the waterfall or canyon can be well outside the centre, so sharing the full address when booking helps us plan the route.
